Happy Birthday, Dear Jonah!

So the day that I was both dreading and looking forward to has come and gone. My sweet baby boy is no longer a baby but has entered into toddlerhood (or toddlerdom??). I am excited, scared, sad, thrilled, and pretty much every other emotion possible. Most of all, however, I am in disbelief. How has it been a year since we brought home this tiny baby? I have enjoyed so many moments- all of the firsts, seeing his sense of humor develop, watching his personality take shape, receiving baby kisses- and also wished for some to pass quickly- his first illness, sleepless nights, sleep training, being unable to put him down for naps. All in all, though, it has been an amazing year. He has become a hilarious, fun-loving, and adventurous little guy!
Just some of the things he's doing these days: making car sounds when he sees a wheel of any kind, trying to say all kinds of words, unrolling toilet paper rolls, climbing anything and everything, using his climbing skills to get anywhere he's not supposed to be, "playing" guitar, pushing around anything that will slide on the carpet, torturing the dog, putting things in containers, taking things out of containers (especially freshly folded laundry), and emptying my tupperware cabinet (a time-honored tradition in our families). He is always learning new things!
Now to the party. I'll have you know that I tried my hardest to only include the best pictures. It was so tough, since he was adorable in every single one!
The cake and cupcakes- I was so excited they turned out so well!

He woke up from his nap about 15 minutes after the party was supposed to start. Guess he has Aunt Kay's sense of time! : )
Probably my fave:

This was his face while we sang to him. The lights were out and there were camera flashes everywhere but instead of being scared, our little adventurer was excited!

"You mean this is all mine??"
Daddy "helped"

Such a cute, messy baby!
Putting the toy box made by Papa to good use!
"Clothes?? Show me the toys!"- his face says it all!
He had fun opening all his cards and gifts

See the bubble wand in his hands? It has yet to be used for the correct purpose. So far it's been a guitar and a sword to vanquish the dog while squealing mercilessly.
Hat from Aunt Heather

This was taken just before the "Drum Book Incident." Honey got him an adorable book that has a drum you can play. Cousin Morgan decided it looked cool, too. She made a beeline for the book and proceeded to ever-so-sneakily slide it away from Jonah's reach and cover up the drum so he couldn't play! The adults thought it was hysterical. Just wait 'til they're older...

We had a great time with all the family who came to show love for our sweet Jonah Bear!

One Year Photo Shoot

Since Jonah will be one on Saturday (!!!) we had pictures made today. Here are some of our favorites:
Classic Jonah face!

On your mark, get set...

One of Jeremy's faves

I can't eat this??

Again with the face!

In these, he actually somewhat favors his Uncle Stephen (but he's still all Daddy!!)

It was a challenge keeping him in one place!

He LOVES his guitar and his new outfit from MawMaw!

Summertime... and the livin's easy

Since summer's coming to an end (sniff!) I realized I have been quite the slacker with blogging. I will now attempt to provide you with my own version of "What I Did on My Summer Vacation". Try to keep up!
First off, I (Sarah) am the Children's Minister at our church. This means I was in charge of the infamous Vacation Bible School. The week was great; 23 kids and 2 accepting Christ! Since our theme was Beach Blast, we ended the week with a Water Day, complete with an 18-foot-tall water slide. Jonah had a great time!

He also tried on Aunt Kay's sunglasses. Cool guy!

We made a day trip to the Cockrell Butterfly Center at the Museum of Natural Science. Jonah really enjoyed seeing the butterflies (and trying to grab them)!

See the little bowl in the corner of the cage? Those would be Cheerios, also known as baby magnets. I seriously think my child has a built-in radar for finding those things!

"Ooooh!!"

Jeremy was a little startled...

I'm usually the photographer but every now and then Mommy sneaks in a picture!

Jeremy was trying to get this butterfly to crawl on his head. I think Jonah was working on his "smolder."

This is why Jeremy loves being home in the summer!

The next couple of pics were from my brother's house. We came over July 3rd to play in the kiddie pool and the slip 'n' slide.

These are some of Jonah's big boy p.j.'s. He looks SO old!!

Our city has installed a few splash pads around town. We tried one out with a family from our church. Jonah had a great time playing in the water, as did Daddy.

Jonah also got to meet Daddy's Grandpa this summer. We're so glad we got to spend some time with him!

Such a cool dude!

Someone loves his blueberries!

He loves any kind of guitar! Here's Uncle Stephen (and Jonah's oldest cousin) showing him how to rock. Let's hope he ends up cooler than Rivers Cuomo! : )

A friend of ours is a firefighter with HFD. He invited us to tour the station and see the trucks. Jonah had so much fun seeing everything. I think we need to go back now, though, since he's since learned to make engine sounds whenever he sees a truck or a wheel!

Jonah telling Justin about the fire engine:

Future firefighter?

These last ones are just random ones taken in the backyard with the sprinkler. This kid LOVES the water!! I don't know what we'll do when it gets too cool!

So that's our summer in a nutshell. Now I've got to get things ready for Jonah's FIRST BIRTHDAY!! I still cannot believe he will be 1 year old on Saturday! Expect an update soon!
